All known of our "Great Exodus" from the inner sphere and the formation of the Clans. However, little is known of the true origins of Clan Black Sheep. Behold, fellow clansmen, this is OUR history.

When our great ilKhan Nicholas Kerensky left the Pentagon worlds to form the clans, he left with 813 warriors, 13 more warriors than previously known. These 13 warriors were removed from the rest of clans. The ilKhan felt that they were too "independent" for the rest of the clans, yet their genetic histories and fighting capabilities were too valuable to be forgotten in a garrison unit or genetic depository. The ilKhan secretly formed the "twenty-first" clan, the Black Sheep. The ilKhan gave them this name in honor of the "Black Sheep of Strana Mechty", as well as, the fact that they were the "black sheep" of the clans.

The "Black Sheep of Strtana Mechty" are genetic relatives of the Longhorn Sheep found in the desolate Rocky Mountains of Terra. The Longhorn Sheep, normally known for their average size and white coats, had a strange reaction to the environment of Strana Mechty, namely the plant life on which they fed. The sheep over time began to grow in size to roughly that of the Buffalo found on the North American Plains of Terra. Their coats and hides became thick and coarse giving them excellent protection from the elements and other predators that lived on Strana Mechty (Ghost Bears could not even
bite through them) and the color of their wool became black as the midnight sky. The horns of the Black Sheep grew in propotion to their bodies and became as hard as 'Mech Armor (in some cases even harder). This change did not startle the colonists at first, until they noticed that the Black Sheep had a fierce, violent temperament that grew in proportion to their size. All of the sheep were released or escaped into the wild forests and mountains of Strana Mechty, rarely to ever again be seen by man. However, the Black Sheep, were eventually known as the "Harbingers" of disaster. Many a settlement was destroyed by natural disasters: fires, floods, earthquakes, etc.., after a black sheep was spotted near its locale. One documented case has a small township (only about 300 inhabitants) destroyed by a falling meteor after a flock of black sheep were seen passing throught the center of the town. Five people survived that disaster and made their way to a port city near one of the freshwater seas of Strana Mechty. Their flesh had been chewed off in many places, and scars had formed over the rest of their bodies. Once they had told their stories of what took place, the city folk became afraid that whatever curse had befallen the survivors would soon follow them here. The five survivors were seized by the city folk, bound together by strong ropes and cord, then thrown into a raging fire, were their skin melted and their bones popped like twigs. Thus, it could said that no one ever truly escaped the "Wrath of the Black Sheep.

The 13 warriors that formed the heart of Clan Black Sheep shared many common qualities were their namesake. The 13 warriors were the largest ever seen at that time, almost as large as the Elementals that serve in the Touman today. They had the same fierce temperament of the Black Sheep, as well as, the stigma that these warriors brought doom with them wherever they went. The ilKhan realized however, that 13 warriors is too small of genetic base to insure the survival of the clan. Therefore, he placed the twelve members of Clan Black Sheep, as his Command Trinary in Clan Wolf. The ilKhan wanted to insure that both Clan Wolf (the Clan that he openly supported) and Clan Black Sheep (the Clan which he felt would best carry on his policies and later become the ilClan) would survive the effort to retake the Pentagon worlds. Clan Black Sheep is the only Clan to survive the entire "Pentagon Wars" without the loss of a single member. After, the wars were over and the ilKhan began his Eugenics Programs for all of the Clans, the ilKhan separated the twelve members of Clan Black Sheep from Clan Wolf. He sent 11 of the thirteen members to a planet two jumps away from the rest of the Pentagon worlds, with the express order of insuring the survival of their Clan. With those warriors, he sent about 300 additional personnel from each caste chosen from the various clans, tons and tons of equipment that would be needed to form an industrial base for the Clan to support the needs of the people and the Touman of the Black Sheep, as well as, the livestock that would be needed to provide food and natural materials for the Clan. The two members of Clan Black Sheep that did not accompany their friends to their new world, Goldschlaeger, were charged with another important task: provide intelligence (new R&D, Council Decisions, news from the Inner Sphere, etc...), send various samples of genetic materials from the other clans back to the Black Sheep, provide the ilKhan with support (be it military, council, etc...), and the procurement of resources and technology for the Black Sheep. These two members were separated and each placed into a different clan. The first, Geronimo Banzai, was placed in the Clan Sea Fox (later to be known as Diamond Shark) as a member of the Clarke bloodline, where he served as Khan Karen Nagasawa's bodyguard and confidant on many occasions, as well as the director of the Clan's Combined-Arms R&D and Tactical Development Command. The last, Lance Fnoor, was placed in Clan Wolf as a member of the Kerensky bloodline, where he served as a Star Colonel in charge of several critical programs (Eugenics and OmniMech Research & Development), as well as, the Aide De Camp to the ilKhan Nicholas Kerensky. These two members of Clan Black Sheep were instrumental on several key occasions in providing assistance to the ilKhan, namely during the Trial of Annihilation of Clan Wolverine.

The Khan of Clan Wolverine discovered through some means (we believe that he placed a spy in Clan Wolf) about the existence of Clan Black Sheep and threatened to expose us to the other Clans, if the ilKhan did not submit to his demands for "compensation". The ilKhan would have none of it and challenged the Khan of Clan Wolverine to a Trial of Grievance. Like a coward, the Wolverine Khan backed away from the Circle of Equals and fled from the ilKhan. The ilKhan made a proposal to the Grand Council concerning Castle Brians found in Clan Wolverine territory (which he shrewdly anticipated that they would refuse), the Khan of Clan Wolverine refused the decision on several grounds, and before he could expose Clan Black Sheep, the ilKhan called for a Trial Of Annihilation against Clan Wolverine.

The Khan of Clan Wolverine was struck aghast by such a call to trial, and even further surprised when the rest of the Clans agreed with the ilKhan. Furthermore, the Wolverine Khan made "outrageous" claims that the ilKhan had deceived the Clans with the existence of a "secret" Clan, no one in the Grand Council believed the Wolverine Khan, except for Khan Karen Nagasawa of Clan Sea Fox and Khan Jerome Winson of Clan Wolf, and they had no intention of supporting him either. Star Colonel Lance Fnoor fought valiantly for Clan Wolf, many times Fnoor and the ilKhan, like their Black Sheep heritage, would suddenly appear in the middle of Clan Wolverine forces fighting side-by-side, leading the Khans of Clan Wolverine into a trap that would spell an entire Clan's "doom".

While these events took place on the Pentagon worlds, Clan Black Sheep prospered on the planet, Goldschlaeger. The planet was about the size of Terra's moon, however, in contrast, it was rich in life and diversity. Many of the Surats brought with the members of Clan Black Sheep were domesticated and trained to perform some "menial" tasks, such as hunting, simple farming and seed-laying, and other domestic labor. (Note: the Surats belonging to Clan Black Sheep have been specially breed for size and intelligence). As a sign of appreciation, all members of Clan Black Sheep keep a Surat as a pet and companion. Some members of Clan Black Sheep have even gone as far as train
their Surats to work in the many alcohol distilleries on the home planet, Goldschlager.

Only one time has Clan Black Sheep ever experienced a major setback, when the ilKhan Nicholas Kerensky died while stopping the treachery of Clan Widowmaker, on that day all of Clan Black Sheep mourned at the loss of our beloved ilKhan. Nicholas Kerensky held the title of Khan of Clan Wolf, Khan of Clan Black Sheep, and the ilKhan of all Clans when he died. Many of the now plentiful Black Sheep warriors wanted to return to our rightful heritage among the other clans, but
saKahn (later Khan) Prefect reminded them of their orders from the ilKhan..."We must survive to insure that those who came with us will one day return home to Terra.", the warriors sounded a cry for the Clan Council to vote for a new Khan. With the arrival of Galaxy Commander Lance Fnoor and Star Colonel Geronimo Banzai, it was decided that saKhan F. Prefect would now be Khan and Galaxy Commander S. Scorpion would serve as saKahn. Furthermore, it was decided that it was becoming too dangerous for Galaxy Commander Lance Fnoor to remain among Clan Wolf, since it was very possible that he would soon be named saKhan or Khan of Clan Wolf under his pseudonym of "Lance Kerensky", a fake accident would be arranged that would "kill" Galaxy Commander Lance Fnoor "Kerensky" and he would remain among Clan Black Sheep as Commander of the Goldschlaeger Guards. Only Star Colonel Geronimo Banzai, under his pseudonym of "Clarke", would return to the rest of the Clans to continue his mission. (Note: The only problem was that Star Colonel Banzai was already being used in both Clan Black Sheep and Clan Sea Fox Eugenics programs.). Star Colonel Geronimo Banzai would remain with Clan Sea Fox until his death in 2853 at the age of 80, when Star Colonel Alexander Banzai (Banzai-Nagasawa bloodline) took over for his father, as the Clan Black
Sheep "shepherd" for the rest of the Clans. (Note: Star Colonel Alexander Banzai is the freebirth child of Geronimo Banzai and Karen Nagasawa...He also fought and won the "Clarke" bloodname under the supposed connection to pseudonym that his father used. Later on Goldschlager, the Black Sheep Homeworld, he won the Banzai bloodname as well.) This pattern would follow until the end of the
"Refusal Wars", when Clan Black Sheep would make their presence known to the other Clans.

Clan Black Sheep has kept busy with both the Inner Sphere, as well as, the rest of the Clans. Staging raiding parties against the other Clans to keep their fighting edge and extraction raids against the Inner Sphere to keep informed of their current level of technology, as well as, the procurement of hidden "caches" and other Star League artifacts. it was during these raids that Clan Black Sheep became "tainted", as the other Clans would say, by Inner Sphere ways. Namely, the large consumption of alcoholic beverages during battle (and free time as well), cussing and playing loud, disruptive music during armed conflicts, and most importantly the seemingly unneeded modifications to all of their 'Mechs, Fighters, and Warships (Splash-Resistant Hot Tubs, Mini-Bars under Command Couches, Varsity Cheerleaders, etc...). However, this has never affected their combat efficiency in any way and contributes greatly towards the Black Sheep high morale. This also enables warriors from Clan Black Sheep to think like "those no good, rotten, cheatin' ISers!" and enables them to make sound tactical adjustments in their battle doctrine when appropriate. The next great advantage of Clan Black Sheep is their genetic diversity, thanks to the constant usage of genetic samples taken from the rest of the Clans (Clan Black Sheep only used though genes that would contribute to the gene pool as a whole and whose "parent" was a ristar among his or her Clan). Currently, Clan Black Sheep yields about 4 to 5 elite Galaxies among their fighting forces (1 cluster entirely of Diamond Shark warriors brought over with Star Captain Mr. Banzai). Like Nicholas Kerensky foretold.... we would be the best that the Clans have to offer.
