| Years ago, my friend Marty Guy obtained a short-tailed ape. He brought it
to my place, and suggested that we give it a good name.
We wanted the little ape to have a name that was easy to remember,
easy to pronounce -- two or three syllables only -- and unlike
any "name" we had ever heard. We made a list of combinations of vowels
and consonants -- and from the list we decided that we preferred NA and
KOO. That was the genesis of the name NAKOO. When my friend Terry Cooper of the web's domain "i-55.com" suggested that I create a website, I proceeded to do so, and then was faced with the question of what to name it. Marty no longer owned our original NAKOO, the little ape. It had been the source of many adventures, including escapes into the wilds of our creek swamps, (to be persuaded by Marty to do mutual hugs, thus recaptures). Eventually the name NAKOO had acquired a sort of resonance with me, and when the website name question arose, I knew what I must call it. NAKOO. Would this new NAKOO also escape into the wilds of the internet? What other sites out there were using this in names, links, or texts? I searched for it, and there was only one hit. A year later, a search brought up a number of hits. I have not explored any of these -- NAKOO has not escaped -- but it has provided numerous adventures as exciting and frustrating as Marty's original. Many visitors to NAKOO have asked me "What does NAKOO mean?". It means a little ape, which I suspect is presently roaming the swamps of south Louisiana -- and this little Website which I hope has entertained you. ### |
