FAMILY SERVICES

It is difficult for most people to realize what it is like to have to provide twenty-four hour care for someone with a disability such as mental retardation...for years and years and years.  Parents of individuals with disabilities get help sometimes from other family members, but constant care can be both draining and stressful.  OPTIONS
helps by providing Respite Care and Personal Care Assistance.

Respite Services:
The purpose of respite care is to provide temporary, short-term relief and assistance to the caregiver of an individual with disabilities, regardless of age.  Services are based on each individual's needs and daily routine.
Respite Care gives the parent or other caregiver a chance to have a few hours alone occasionally, to spend individual time with other family members, or just to take a walk or go to a movie.  Respite Services include meal preparation, light housekeeping, assistance with leisure activities and working with an individual's plan of care.

Personal Care Assistants:
OPTIONS provides Personal Care Assistants who work individually with those who need personal care.  These
PCA's help individuals with disabilities to shop or perform household chores or to participate in recreational
activities.

Person to Person:
Parents often need someone to talk to, someone who understands the particular problems associated with parenting an individual with a disability.  OPTIONS always has a listening ear for any parent who needs to
express personal feelings.  Often, other parents can provide that support as well, and OPTIONS helps to facilitate this parent to parent communication.
