SUPPORTED LIVING

OPTIONS helps individuals with developmental disabilities who wish to live alone or to share an apartment by providing assistance in finding an apartment or home.  These individuals are employed in the community and are financially reponsible for their own living expenses and any medical bills that are not covered by Medicaid, Medicare or private insurance.   However, OPTIONS provides needed transportation, supervision with money
management, help with nutrition and meal-planning, assistance with social and recreational development, problem-solving and other individual needs.

VOCATIONAL SERVICES

A job can be a defining factor in a person's life.  It helps determine who you are and your value to yourself, your family and your community.

OPTIONS helps individuals with disabilities find jobs that are challenging and fulfilling.  Job Coaches work with new emloyees to train them for their positions and then remain available for any additional training or help that
is required.

OPTIONS has a successful history of helping individuals find jobs and keep them.  Many individuals have
been working at the same job for over five years.  Many have been recognized for their good work.  Employers
hold them up as examples to other employees.  One woman has received a gold watch for ten years at the same
job.  Before benefiting from OPTIONS services, this woman lived in a state institution.

Through OPTIONS, individuals with disabilities are working at many places of employment throughout
the Greater Tangipahoa Parish Area in a variety of jobs ranging from secretary to stock-person.  These
people work independently in individual jobs or with supervision on job crews.   OPTIONS job crews work
to provide maintenance at Southeastern Louisiana University and lawn-care for the City of Hammond.
