... by training
yourself first
Here are some of
the best books
on Retriever Training
One of the
best ever written.... great
for beginners and experienced
dog people alike, and
should be considered essential reading.
This one should be read before
acquiring a pup, if at all possible.
Water
Dog
By Richard A. Wolters
Considered by many as "The Bible of Retriever Training". If
you only read one book.... be sure it's this one.

Training
Your Retriever
by James Lamb Free
The mistake most people
make when training a dog is that they do not
prepared themselves properly before training begins. When this happens,
the dog often times develops some bad habits. This book not only
tells you how to avoid bad traits from occurring, but it focuses on correcting
bad habits and traits that already exist. No other book that I have read
devotes this much attention to problem solving. A deeper insight than
most dog training book, and extremely informative. A must for any
serious minded dog training.
