Hi there, my name is Skylark7k ND CompNet.
It is my job and
pleasure to train you as a BL (Block Leader) and help you find employment here. I
ask that you if you aren't a Sky Trained BD, please follow the directions on the BD
Training page first. After you finish that course you are to come here and take this one.
Even if you are a present BD, you will still need to read over my course and be
able to answer some of the questions. I will help you to understand every aspect of
this job. The most important part of you job will be to follow instructions.
Logging On
Block Leaders MUST log on to Cybertown a minimum of 5 times a week, and not miss more than
2 days in a row. If you going to be out of Cybertown for an extended period of time, be
sure to notify your ND. You need to spend at least 1 hour each day in Cybertown.
Neighborhood Meetings
There are neighborhood meetings every other week at "CompNet Coffee"club. The
day and time of the meetings will be posted on the hood message board. Block Leaders are
REQUIRED to attend each meeting. If you cannot attend the meeting, notify your ND and
assign a Block Deputy to go for you and represent your block. If your block misses
representation at more than 3 meetings in 3 months, it may be grounds for dismissal from
your BL position.
Block Deputies
As Block Leader you are required to hire and manage a team of block deputies to help you
with your block duties. You can have a maximum of SIX Block Deputies at any time. Block
Deputies must have at least 80 exp, and log into Cybertown a minimum of 3 days a week, for
at least one half hour per day. Assign each BD a specific job or jobs to do, and check
frequently to make sure they are doing their jobs. You may ask your BDs to give you weekly
reports. Contact your ND if you need ideas for BD job assignments. You should also check
often to make sure your BDs live on your block, and are logging on the required number of
days per week. BDs may leave the block to take another position and fail to notify you.
They should be removed from access immediately. BDs who fail to log on, or do not perform
their assigned tasks as required, should be warned of the possible loss of their jobs,
then fired if their job performance does not improve.
Block Buttons
Access Rights
To give the Block Deputy position to someone, put their name in one of the 8 boxes. DO NOT
put any checkmarks in the boxes beneath the names, as doing so will give access to people
not assigned to your block. DO NOT make any changes, additions, or check any boxes on the
other access pages (read, action, change). You can lock your block out to every resident.
DO NOT USE THESE CHECKBOXES! Access pages should be checked frequently, and any changes
reported to your ND. The NL and NDs may have their names added in as BDs for your block.
Check
This button is used to approve, or "check", the 2D house images for each
resident. Images should be in good taste. If a resident chooses an image that is
offensive, it should not be approved, and your NL notified. If a picture has the word
'Locked' next to it, and it's an appropriate picture, click on the picture. Another window
opens. Uncheck the locked checkbox, and then click the update button. This is how you
check someone's house picture. If a house picture is inappropriate, use this method to
lock it.
Update
Use this feature to create free spaces for new residents to move to. No more than 2-3 free
spaces should be open at any one time. DO NOT create a free space over another resident's
house, trees, rocks, rivers, or roads.
Message to All
Use this button to send a message to everyone on your block. Some residents do not have
HTML tags enabled on their personal message board, so be careful whether you use HTML or
not.
Message Boards
Your block message board is very important. It is a valuable tool for communication
between block and hood staff, and promotes a sense of community for all residents. Try to
redesign the board every so often, just to keep things fresh. If you don't know HTML, ask
your ND for assistance. Keep no more than 1-2 weeks worth of messages on the message
board, deleting old messages as needed. You may assign a BD to do this. You and your BDs
should post messages on your block board often, such as block and/or hood news, upcoming
events, how to tips for new residents, job openings on your block, etc.
Activities
You will need to open a block club. Use this club to hold parties and meetings for your
block. There may already be a block club available for your use, ask your ND. Activities
may be live parties and games, or may be message board contests. Trivia contests are
always popular. Another good contest is a house image contest. A great way to get ideas
for activities is to do a web search for word and party games. Trivia questions on any
subject can also be found easily on the web. Other possible activities include: an avatar
fashion show, message board hunt, joke contest, inbox decorating contest, etc.
Deletions
Houses that have not been accessed for 31 days need to be deleted to make room on the
block for new residents to move to. You will need to keep a list of all the houses on your
block, and update it frequently, adding new residents, and removing those that have moved
away or have been deleted. A good way to do this is to make a master list of all houses,
residents, and last access dates, and keep the list in notepad on your computer. Then you
can see at a glance those houses that have not been accessed in 31 days and are due for
deletion. Once you have been hired as BL, you will be able to see the last access date in
each house on your block. To delete a house, go to the house and click DELETE on the jump
gate to the right. Then click OK. Keep up to date on deletions. It is important to delete
the houses the day they expire.
Welcome Messages
Welcome messages should be posted to the inboxes of all new block residents. A great way
to do this is to type up the welcome and save it in notepad on your PC. Then the message
can be copied and pasted, saving you time. The message could include info about your block
such as a list of staff members, as well as a reminder to residents to check their home
inboxes, message board, and block board for news and upcoming events. Include that
residents should log into their houses at least once monthly to avoid deletion.
Cybertown Policy!
Policy on offensive houses, images, bot names and
responses, and web pages. Use of profanity, rudeness,
racist or sexist language to name houses, bots, or bot responses may be grounds for
immediate deletion of the offending house. Mild profanity, while not desirable, may be
tolerated here. Notify your ND of any mild problems and and they will check it out to see
if action is warranted. If you come across an offensive house or bot that you feel needs
immediate attention please notify the NL, or any of the NDs right away. You may also
contact a colony staff member. This is a colony matter but if you can't find anyone online
notify security and tell them the problem. Use your best judgment. Keep your ND informed
of any offenses and action taken. Web pages and links that residents use in their houses
must also follow Cybertown rules of good taste, and should be checked frequently.
Block Reports
You are required to provide weekly reports to your ND, contact your ND for the date and
time the report is due by. If your ND does not receive these reports, it may be grounds
for dismissal. There is a link on the Hood message board that will take you to the
Hood web page. You will find at the bottom of this page a link to Block Leader Weekly
Report Forms.

After you study this page, please contact me at http://cybertown.com/home/skylark7k . Leave
a message in my inbox and ask for an interview for a BL position. I will set up an
interview with you. During the interview I will briefly go over this page and you will be
asked questions to make sure you understand everything. I will also give you a chance
after each segment to ask questions. Please ask questions. I know you are learning when
you ask questions. =) Some interviews may be held with several residents at once. So in
order to keep things running smoothly I ask that instead of interrupting the training,
just type in a ? mark if you have a question and I will call on you
in order.
When
I feel you have learned the BL duties successfully
I will then help you find a BL position.

I will be looking forward to your inbox message.
Thank you for allowing my to help you enjoy Cybertown.
