Earn your "Wings" here!!

Hi there, my name is Skylark7k, ND and Job Trainer for Comics.

It is my job and pleasure to train you as a  BD (Block Deputy) and help you find employment here. I ask that you read this entire page before contacting me. Please take your time, you do not have to fully understand it yet. I wil help you to understand every aspect of this job. Please look over this page first.

After you feel you have familiarized yourself with this training page come to my home in Cybertown and leave me a message in my INBOX,  requesting BD training and interview. I will contact you and set this up. This will probably take up an hour of your time so please let me know when is best for you.

Wednesdays 9 p.m.

Saturdays 10 a.m.

Please read the following paragraphs and study them. During the training we will go over each aspect of your job. If you have any questions during the training please let me know by typing a question mark in the chat. I will then finish what I am saying and give you a chance to ask your question. This will be most helpful to me and everyone because it will allow us to move through the course quicker and easier. Please don't feel like your questions are stupid. You can't learn by keeping quiet. I like to see people ask questions. Questions mean your listening and interested.

After I have finished explaining each segment of the training I will ask you several questions just to make sure you understand what I have taught. Don't worry if you don't know the answer or if you give the wrong answer. My job is to teach, not to grade. =)

I may ask you to do certain things that will let me know you are prepared for your job.   Every job you may hold in CT is a good job and worthy of your best effort. CT is fun and exciting. Having a job in CT makes it even better. I want you to succeed. I want you to be the best at whatever you do here and have fun while your doing it. Again, if you don't understand something, please speak up. That's what I am here for, to help you understand the duties of Block Deputy.

Getting StartedNow, lets get started.

           log.bmp (69918 bytes)
First thing, I feel obligated to let you know it would be a very good idea to take notes.   You can use them for future reference. You can take notes by going into 3D at the beginning of our meeting. The logs of your 3D chats can be accessed by going into 3D and clicking on the right arrow once.sessions.bmp (70770 bytes)

Then click on the Session Tab.  If you have any trouble with this, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help you.

If at any time you have a question, just let me know by  a question mark like this  ?, please keep the questions brief and to the point. We have a lot of information to review. I will also stop once in a while to give you a chance to ask any questions.
As we proceed with this orientation you will be asked to open various sites. This is a simulation of what you will see once you have gained access to your assigned block. Please follow along closely in the notes, click when asked, observe what you see, and answer any questions.
Let's begin with the Duties of a Block Deputy
 · Updating the "Block Map"
 · Checking "Free Spaces" on the Block Map
 · Checking "Last Access" dates of residents
 · Checking for "Adult Content" in images, links and backgrounds
 · Message Posting
 · Passing on messages from "Block Message Board" to "Resident Message Boards"
 · Help to create "Block" and "Club" websites.
 · Helping to organize "Block" events
 · Helping "New Residents" with the use of Cybertown functions such as messages/inbox/IM/3D/buying and selling, etc.
 · Recruiting of "New Residents"
 · Completing a "Weekly Report"
This is by no means an exhaustive list; similarly not all of these jobs will need to be completed. Every block varies, and the final assignment of the Block Deputy Duties rests in the Block Leaders' hands. Tasks will either be distributed by row in a block or by rotation of the tasks. Therefore, individual duties will vary from block to block, and from Block Deputy to Block Deputy.

Access RightsPart 1

Now we will discuss and work with Access Rights.

After becoming a Block Deputy, the first thing you will get is ACCESS RIGHTS. This is what allows you to do your job and lets Cybertown know you should get paid. Access Rights can only be given to you by your Block Leader.
When you get ACCESS you will see a number of new things, which help you perform the duties of this position. I will explain, in detail, all of the new things you will be viewing.

Up.bmp (46694 bytes)At your home, if you scroll down and look to the far right frame you will notice your Block Name highlightedor a picture of your block. To the left of the name is an arrow with word "UP", click on it and you will be on the Block Map page.

Most of the work done by a Block Deputy is performed here on the Block Map Page.

We will begin with Messaging:

In the far right frame you will see a number of buttons, some will be very new to you. I will explain each button and how they are used in performing your duties. There is at least one button that you will not have access too that is Access Rights, that is exclusive to BL and NDblock map.bmp (781974 bytes)
The first button "Information" when clicked will reveal all of the residents that presently work on the block. The Block Leader is first. After that are all of the Block Deputies currently working, this is where your name will be added once you are given "Access" to the Block.
The next button is "Messages", this button gives you access to the Block Message Board. You are encouraged to post messages as often as you want. It is a very good idea to post announcements of new residents and any Block Events on this board.
As a Block Deputy you are able to read and post messages here, but don't delete anything. Deletion of messages is the duty of the Block Leader.
The next is "Message to All", this button allows you to send a message to all of the residents of your block at one time. The messages are delivered to the residents' message board and yours. You are encouraged to use this feature at every opportunity. This will be a wonderful way for you to introduce yourself as the new Block Deputy.

Block Deputy Tasks Part 2

BLOCK DEPUTY TASKS:

As a Block Deputy you will have a number of duties to complete. It will be up to your Block Leader to assign you to them. My job is to teach you how to do all they jobs of a Block Deputy.

From time to time you maybe working on a particular task with another Block Deputy.
If you should notice that the other Block Deputy is not accomplishing their assigned task, you are do your task and be sure theirs is done as well. Report the fact the other Block Deputy is not accomplishing their assignment to your Block Leader. Remember the objective is to keep the Block running smoothly. If you are working already, it is your duty to do the extra task to make sure your block is kept up. If you should forget what your assigned task consists of be sure to check your Block Message Board or contact your Block Leader.

Task #1 Keep The Block Up-to-date!            Task # 1 is "Keeping the Block Up-to-date". This is accomplished on the "Block Map" page. All right now. if you scroll up you will see an "Update" button on the far right frame.

This is what it should look like
update.bmp (9154 bytes)

updatewiz.bmp (490782 bytes)When you click "update" a map like this one will appear on your screen.
In this map you see a lot of little white boxes and some houses. You will use this map to add or remove "Free" spaces based on what appears on the previous map. The little white boxes are areas that "Free" spots can be placed in. A "Free" spot is accomplished by placing a check mark in the empty white boxes.  Before you place a check mark, be sure to NEVER EVER Place a check in any box that is over a natural landmark that is permanently on the map. Such as: roads, rivers, rocks, trees, or patches of grass. Once you have checked the box that you want a "Free" spot to appear you will click the "Update" button that appears right below the map you are looking at. This will reload the same map on your screen. Now if you click on the button "Cancel", this will bring up the normal Block Map.
cancel.bmp (565074 bytes)
In order to remove a "Free" space, you would uncheck (remove the check mark by clicking on the box that has a check mark) the white box. Click on "Update" below the map. Then click on "Cancel" below the map, to make sure changes were applied.

The following is a very important item to remember. The maximum number of free spots on any map is 3 NEVER EVER, go over this unless your Block Leader tells you to.You may only have less than 3 "Frees" if the block is almost full.

This is why it is requested that you check your Block Map each time you log into Cybertown, and again before you log off.

Task #2 Deleting old houses!

Task # 2 Deleting old homes

last access.bmp (291774 bytes)

At homes in 2d you will see the "Last Access" date. This is the last date the resident visited their home.  If the "Last Access" date is more than 3 weeks you should try to make contact with the resident and inform them their house will be deleted after the 4th week.

Some helpful ideas to gain contact with a resident are as follows:

1.)  Leave a warning message in the inbox at their house.
2.)  Leave a warning message in the resident message board by clicking the "message to all" button on the block map page. We do this because someone in the block may know how to get in touch with them or may know why they aren't logging on.
3.)  Try and obtain an email address for the resident (sometimes this is listed on their home in 2d)
4.)  Place the resident on your Instant Message list, so that you can contact them when they appear in Cybertown.
5.)  Try and contact them using an ICQ number.

The exception to this rule is if the resident has told you or you Block Leader that they will be away for a long period of time. It is the obligation of the Block Leader to inform you of these houses/residents.Residents need to be reminded often that if they are going on vacation or will not be able to access for a long period of time then they need to put (VAC) behind their house name to insure they won't be deleted. It is always a very good idea to notify the Block Leader of any homes that are approaching the 4 week mark and will be placed on deletion. If contact has not been made with the resident, the 4 week period has passed and still no access has been made, and the Block Leader has not informed you of any special exception. You are to delete the home. Before you delete the homes, please take note of the resident's name and house name because you will need to give this information to your Block Leader.

delete2.bmp (25814 bytes)
Now we are going to walk through a deletion of a home. >While you are in a house in 2d you would scroll down the right frame and click on the "Delete" button.

If the house isn't ready for deletion you will get this page:

deletion.bmp (886326 bytes)

This screen will tell you there has not been enough time passed yet and you are unable to delete this home. If enough time has elapsed since the residents last access then you will see a screen like this one:

delete home.bmp (805050 bytes)

It will ask if you are sure you want to delete the house in question. Please click on yes. (You do want to delete this home.)
This answer will take you directly to the Block Map page.

When you delete a home, a free space will appear on the Block Map where that home was located. Make sure your block has the correct number of Free Spaces. If it doesn't, you will have to correct that.

The final part of this task is to check houses for inappropriate house names. By "inappropriate" we mean anything that would be unsuitable or illegal for children to view, i.e.: vulgarity, offensive, or pornographic.

If you should come across a house name that falls into this category you must act immediately. You will leave a message for the resident in their inbox (at their home). Be sure to take a screen shot of the offense. Contact your Block Leader NOW if they are online, if not leave a message in their inbox, and email them the screen shot.

Remember to save the image your BL may want it.

Task #3 Images and Links Checks

Task #3 Image and Link Checks

All images uploaded to a 2d house have to be checked and approved by the Block Deputies.
It is possible to check images manually by going to each house. However, it doesn't allow you to check those images that are presently locked. Therefore, it is advantageous to use the check button available here on the Block Map Page then you check those images quickly.

check1.bmp (41814 bytes)
When you click on "Check" a new page will appear on your screen that will reveal a list of all homes those that have uploaded an image will have a thumbnail of said image appear on this page.

lockedimage11.bmp (219990 bytes)

If you look to the right side of this page you will notice if any of the uploaded images are locked. If an image is locked, you will need to click ON the image.

lockedimage.bmp (338262 bytes)

This will reveal another page with the image and a small checked box.

Remove the check from the box by clicking on it.

Then click on the "update" button that appears below the small box

This unlocks the image and now it will appear on the 2d page of that resident.

There are of course exceptions. If the image were pornographic or offensive you would of course keep it locked. Be sure to take a screen shot of the offense.
Post a message in the resident's inbox. Contact your Block Leader as soon as possible, either by inbox, email, or catch them online. You may have to do all three.
One of the duties of a Block Deputy is to ensure that no adult content is stored or linked to or from any resident's house.
Similar to the section on Checking Images, it is important that we make sure a resident is not linking to any inappropriate site from his personal links. By "inappropriate" we mean anything that would be unsuitable or illegal for children to view.
Unfortunately, we don't have an automatic method of checking links, so occasionally it may be necessary for the Block Deputy to manually check a resident's links.
Ok now back to a 2D home....
By selecting the "Links" button and trying the links that are listed, you will know if they  Bad links should be reported to your Block Leader as soon as possible.
There are one or two other areas that should be monitored:
Some residents program their bots with unsuitable language, or you may find by clicking "Information" button in a house that the wording is very inappropriate.
Always when the resident has anything inappropriate in any of these areas be sure to take a screen shot, leave a message for the resident in their inbox and contact your Block Leader as soon as possible.

Task #4 Recruiting
 Task #4 Recruiting

Recruiting is how the Blocks build residency and activity. There are many ways to recruit. We will only cover a few here.  First you should target New Members of Cybertown. An excellent place to start would be Newcomers Club. Offer to help the new member get a house and move them in. Also tell them that we promote from within the Neighborhood.
If you are recruiting a more experienced resident, you might offer cc (city cash) or items for their home. Please remember though this comes from your pocket, unless your Block Leader has agreed to pay.
After they move in, offer to meet them at their home. Leave them a welcome message. This will also give you an opportunity to check the house name, and the bot.
This is an excellent time to get the new resident acquainted with the functions of their new home, as well as, discuss your Block and it's activities. You should inform them of their inbox and message board, and the differences between the two.
You should also discuss with them the placing of an image on their 2d page.

If you should ever have difficulty in recruiting remember your Block Leader is here to help your. They have quite a bit of experience in recruiting, and probably some great ideas as well.

Task #5 Weekly ReportsTasks #5 WEEKLY REPORTS:

This is a report of your Block Deputy activities for the week. It should be posted in your Block Leaders inbox by the date and time that they set for you. If for some reason they want it posted elsewhere they will tell you. They may want all or some of this information. They will instruct you on what they want you to do.
A full report should have all of the following:
1). The number of houses in the block.
2). The number of unused spaces on the block
3). The number of homes that you deleted
4). Number of people you recruited for the block
5). Total number of 2d images in the block and any bad images you have found.
6). Any problems with any staff members or residents.
7). Any idea for ways to improve the block. Such as contests, parties, etc.
8). Anything else you feel your BL should know.
The information you supply in your report may alter according to the task you are working on that week. The more information you give them the better they can do their job and the better you look.  If you feel you would like to take another job in Cybertown, or possibly apply for a promotion, discuss this with you Block Leader first (this is done out of courtesy).

You are about to earn your "Wings"!!             After you study this page, please contact me at http://cybertown.com/home/skylark7k . Leave a message in my inbox and ask for an interview for a BD position. I will set up an interview with you. During the interview I will briefly go over this page and you will be asked questions to make sure you understand everything. I will also give you a chance after each segment to ask questions. Please ask questions. I know you are learning when you ask questions. =) Some interviews may be held with several residents at once. So in order to keep things running smoothly I ask that instead of interrupting the training, just type in a ? mark if you have a questions and I will call on you in order.

When I feel you have learned the BD duties successfully
I will give you your set of  "Wings"
by putting  your name on my "Sky List" of officially trained Block Deputies.
I will then help you find a BD position.
