When the Word of God is received
To help understand "Born Again," which some call the "New Birth," I used John's
gospel as a bases. More is said in his epistles on this particular subject, using this
language than the others. One may ask how can one be born again? John wrote,
(John 1:12 KJV) "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name."
Before given power to become one of God's sons (or daughters), one must believe on and
receive Him (John 1:12) who is the Word (John 1:14).
(John 1:14 KJV) "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."
When He is received (John 1:1-5, 12-14) and one is born again, an analogy can be like seed
(1 Pet 1:23) -- the Word of God (Luke 8:11) -- that is planted
(1 Cor 3:6-8), received (John 1:12) and taken root
in good moist (Luke 8:6) ground
(Mat 13:8,
23), watered
(1 Cor 3:6-8), nourished
(1 Tim 4:6), growing
(Eph 4:15;
1 Pet 2:2;
2 Pet 3:18) and bearing fruit (Luke 8:8, 15) in ones
life. For we are "...born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God...."
(1 Pet 1:22-25 KJV) "Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned
love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: {23} Being
born
again, not of corruptible
seed, but of incorruptible, by the
word of
God, which liveth and abideth for ever. {24} For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: {25} But the
word of the
Lord endureth for ever. And this is the
word which by the gospel is preached unto you."
Born and born again
Being born again is accomplished by the will of God (John 1:12-13).
