other than daylilies
on a trip to nc doing family history research in 1989 a yards attendant at a rest stop in sc told me the story about the money plant. Since it was so prolific he pulled up several of the smaller plants and gave them to me to get them started in my garden. I have been enjoying them every since.
the money plant is more often referred to as honesty plant. it is a biennial plant. it produces leaves the first year after sowing and flowers and seeds in the second year. after it flowers, as in the top picture on the left, it then produces the silver seed cases, as in the top picture on the right, thus getting it's name of money plant because of it's resemblance to actual coins.
i let my plants sow their own seeds, so every year i have new ones coming up and every year i have some in their second year which have the lovely purple flowers.
the dried flowers work well in dried arrangements.
